The electoral mode has already begun to filter through the recesses of the Palacio de Cibeles one year after the polls are installed to elect the mayor of Madrid.

And the one who currently holds the position, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, has detected him in search of repeating with a second term in which this time he can have a greater margin of maneuver unlike the current one.

The popular

councilor

managed to form a Government in June 2019 despite being the second force in Madrid, behind Más Madrid, thanks to the Government pact with Citizens and the investiture pact with Vox.

And it is in this second group where "weakness" has been detected from Almeida's team.

Because the radical right formation has not yet decided who will be its candidate in the city for the municipal elections.

All the lights point to the transfer of Rocío Monasterio from the Assembly to the City Council

, according to several sources consulted, but the decision has not yet been made and it is Javier Ortega Smith who remains at the head of the municipal group as spokesman.

A profile that, as they understand in Cibeles, benefits them when it comes to fishing for votes in the most conservative sectors of the city.

Because this is an "absent" spokesman, they point out in the mayor's circle, due to his status as general secretary of the party and national deputy

.

This is how they express it in private conversations in the municipal government.

But that has also reached the public arena, as happened in the last plenary session held on May 31, where Ortega Smith requested the appearance of the mayor and everything ended in a public dispute.

«He has no other strategy for Madrid than to talk about Madrid Central because he has no other agenda for Madrid than the obligations that correspond to him as secretary general and as a national deputy of Vox.

And I feel sorry for all the Vox voters who voted for him to act as spokesperson here and for him to be present at City Hall

.

Because you yourself are aware that this is not happening », started the mayor in direct reference to who had been his preferred partner in the first half of the mandate.

Ortega Smith tried to get even by assuring that as spokesman he had attended "all the commissions and all the plenary sessions" that had been held during the last three years.

“The only thing missing is that he did not even fulfill his obligations as a councilor, Mr. Ortega,” Almeida replied in search of confrontation with a formation from which he is aware that he now has the opportunity to steal space in Madrid.

In one of the most conservative districts, Salamanca, Almeida has raised five of the great 15 mandate closure works, just where Vox can be a rival.

But the absence of a candidate in Vox is not the only symptom of weakness that they have detected in the PP.

His refusal to sit down to agree on the latest Budgets and the belief that this type of party, as happens to Podemos, lose strength when they enter governments have also been aired.

And Vox has just come to power in Castilla y León, where it has already faced several controversies, and asks to do so in Andalusia.

Precisely there, in Andalusia, the

popular

ones detect another chance of success for their strategy.

If Juanma Moreno finally reaches an absolute majority or manages to govern alone

, as they propose, it would be the second blow to Vox after the one that Ayuso inflicted on them in the Community of Madrid in May 2021 without obtaining a majority but being able to govern alone.

Although the polls distance Almeida from the majority -the last one from Sigma Dos for EL MUNDO left him at eight- they predict in the popular wing that Ciudadanos, dragged by the national dynamics, can still be scratched by one more attorney in the last year.

Even Vox.

Which would allow him to approach a figure of around 24 or 25 councilors and thus also govern the city as a minority, without another party in government.

Almeida himself has been expressing in public for weeks that his intention is to

"form a government alone" and be able to rely on one or the two parties that complete the center-right in the capital

.
