The AvtoVAZ company announced the resumption of production of cars at a plant in Togliatti.

The company has started assembling the Lada Granta in the Classic configuration of the 2022 model year.

“Granta in the presented configuration will be the most affordable new passenger car on the Russian market.

The model was developed in order to ensure the maximum possible localization of the car, eliminating the impact of a shortage of imported components,” the company’s press service noted.

The Granta Classic'22 equipment list includes electric power steering, front electric windows, ISOFIX child seat mounts, daytime running lights, on-board computer, central locking, as well as four-speaker audio preparation and 14-inch steel wheels with decorative caps.

The only proposed power plant option consists of a 90 hp engine.

and manual transmission.

The company noted that the Classic'22 version received "improving design and comfort systems that were previously only characteristic of higher versions."

Among such elements, AvtoVAZ cites painted door moldings, heating and electric mirrors.

In addition, 15-inch alloy wheels are available as an option.

The head of the AvtoVAZ concern, Maxim Sokolov, said that the company should continue to produce cars on the market that do not depend on the situation with the import of components.

“We must continue to produce on the Russian market the most popular and affordable cars, which will not be affected by the shortage of foreign components.

To this end, the enterprise, together with the federal and regional authorities, is intensively working to develop the competencies of Russian suppliers, ”the press service of the company quotes Sokolov as saying.

Note that since the middle of last year, AvtoVAZ introduced temporary suspensions of production due to difficulties with the supply of electronic components.

In 2022, the company decided to postpone the unified corporate vacation, which was previously scheduled for the period from July 25 to August 14, to the period from April 4 to April 25.

Later, there was a planned suspension for the period from April 30 to May 11, due to the May holidays and corporate holidays.

During May, the automaker announced additional shutdown periods several times.

Note that against the background of the Russian special operation in Ukraine, the French corporation Renault decided to reconsider its participation in the capital of AvtoVAZ.

In the past, Renault owned almost 68% of the shares of Alliance Rostec Auto BV, which, in turn, owned 100% of the shares of AvtoVAZ, together with Rostec (32% of the shares).

At the end of 2021, AvtoVAZ's papers were transferred from offshore to Russian jurisdiction.

At the same time, on May 16, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation announced the transfer of 67.69% of AvtoVAZ shares to the ownership of the Russian Federation represented by FSUE NAMI.

In addition, the Moscow government was transferred to the Renault Russia enterprise, the production site of which was located at the facilities of the former AZLK plant, which produced cars under the Moskvich brand.

On June 6, it became known that the plant of CJSC Renault Russia was officially renamed into JSC Moscow Automobile Plant Moskvich.

Earlier, the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, said that the company would produce cars under the historical Moskvich brand.

As the mayor explained, KamAZ will become the main technological partner of the revived Moskvich plant.

According to the mayor, at the first stage, the plant will organize the production of classic cars with an internal combustion engine, and in the future, electric cars will also be assembled at the site.

Subsequently, Sobyanin also explained that we are not talking about the release of old Moskvich models, instead of them they will assemble the "most modern" cars.

At the same time, the mayor noted that the implementation of this project will require the participation of international partners, since "it is impossible to create a domestic car from scratch on our own."

In turn, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Denis Manturov, said that a Chinese automaker could be involved in the project.

According to the minister, two companies are being considered in this capacity, but he did not specify which firms they are talking about.
