There are different opinions on the issue of liability.

The Swedish Sami National Association, headed by chairman Matti Berg Blind, believes that it is the Swedish Transport Administration that will clean up carcasses after reindeer collisions.

Fredrik Olofsson, the Swedish Transport Administration's unit manager for road maintenance in Norrbotten, is now responding to the statement.

- It is the owner of the reindeer who is responsible for removing the traffic-killed reindeer.

The reindeer is an individual property and we are not allowed to remove anyone's property.

The Swedish Transport Administration is responsible for wild animals such as moose, says Olofsson.

"No pleasant sight around our roads"

He sees no problem with reindeer owners going out and removing traffic-killed reindeer lying next to the roadway.

- Reindeer owners can be and work around the roads just like everyone else.

These are the same rules as for everyone who for some reason has to work around the roads.

We demand that everyone wears warning clothing so that they are visible and then we have an education called "Work on the road" that everyone should go, says Fredrik Olofsson and continues:

- It is not a pleasant sight around our roads, we do not want dead reindeer bodies around our roads but it should be nice and clean.
