During the night until Tuesday, an agreement was reached on a draft of a new law on minimum wages in the EU.

The law will promote adequate statutory minimum wages and decent working and living conditions for European employees, according to a press release from the EU Council.

But Sweden does not support it and the government will propose to the Riksdag that they vote no to the directive.

This was announced by Minister of Labor and Gender Equality Eva Nordmark (S) on Tuesday.

It is mostly a symbolic marking that will not be decisive in a decision, says SVT's European correspondent David Boati, when he participates in Rapport.

- It will in all probability go through.

This is a process that has been going on for years and there is a large majority in the EU for these minimum wages.
