Covid-19 infection has been detected at a unit in elderly care on Gotland.
This is stated by Region Gotland in a press release.
Infection control doctor Maria Amér does not want to say whether it is about a home or if the infection has been found in the home care service.
Both users and staff have tested positive.
Infection tracing is now underway and a temporary restraining order has been introduced.
- It is sad to state that we have a situation with the spread of infection in a unit within elderly care.
We are now isolating infected people.
We also inform everyone who needs to be informed about this, says social director Marica Gardell.
Fragile needs consideration
However, there has been infection in elderly care even earlier this year, according to infection control doctor Maria Amér.
- But we have stopped with the weekly report that we previously had on the website and now chose instead the form of a press release.
We wanted to be clear, she says.
She emphasizes the importance of remaining careful in contact with elderly and fragile people.
Those who are ill should stay at home and, for example, not visit a special accommodation.
- This is a reminder that the pandemic is still ongoing and that we must take into account the disease in health and care, says Maria Amér.
