Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, issued a decision to establish the National Media Office, with the aim of developing the media system in the country to serve the national interest, enhance the country's media position at the global level, and develop coordination and cooperation mechanisms between various authorities. media in the country, in addition to preparing influential national media leaders.

The decision stipulated adding the Emirates News Agency (WAM), as a unit affiliated to the head of the office, provided that the administrative and financial rules and regulations of the agency continue.

The decision stated that the National Media Office will be a unit affiliated with the Minister of Presidential Affairs, enjoying the necessary financial and administrative independence, to achieve its objectives and exercise its competencies, provided that its headquarters will be in the city of Abu Dhabi, and its branches or offices may be established inside or outside the country by a decision of the Minister.

To achieve its objectives, the office undertakes a number of tasks and competencies, the most important of which are proposing and developing media strategic plans, legislation, regulations and decisions concerned with media development and monitoring their implementation, in coordination with the concerned authorities, training and qualifying national media cadres, developing and organizing the work of official speakers, and representing the state in conferences and media events within the state. And outside it, preparing research and studies in the media field, in addition to coordinating with all official and private media agencies, on national issues, and developing strategic relations with Arab, regional and international media, with the aim of exchanging best practices.
