“I believe that Mr. Volodin’s statement is the logical conclusion of Russia’s withdrawal from the Council of Europe and the withdrawal from the regulations and obligations of Russia to implement the decisions of the ECtHR in the country.

The Council of Europe used the ECtHR as a political mechanism for putting pressure on Russia and forgot that this body was created in order to protect the rights and freedoms of man and citizen,” the lawyer said.

In her opinion, the decisions made regarding Russia were politicized.

“After that, Russia itself withdrew from the Council of Europe, using the seventh article of the convention, I believe that our legislators at the national level should take measures so that the decisions of the ECHR do not have a privileged and higher degree than the decisions of the Russian courts,” Yarmush added.

Earlier, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said that this week it is planned to adopt federal laws on non-execution of decisions of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).

Volodin also noted that the ECHR has become an instrument of political struggle against Russia in the hands of Western politicians.
