In Baden-Württemberg, the Ministry of the Interior wants to allow cities and municipalities to introduce no-knife zones in the future.

So far, this has only been possible in places or in parts of the city that are crime hotspots.

According to the will of Interior Minister Thomas Strobl (CDU), such no-knife zones should now also exist in busy places.

The green-black coalition agreed in the coalition agreement in 2021 to create such zones.

After the youth riots in the summer of 2020 in downtown Stuttgart, Mayor Frank Nopper (CDU) is also considering banning the taking of knives on weekends in the upper castle garden and on the castle square.

The Greens still have concerns because immigrants are often affected by low-threshold identity checks without cause.

It is also unclear which types of knives should actually fall under the ban.

There were 391 “crimes against life” in the Southwest in 2021, 36.1 percent were committed with a knife.

In every second murder or manslaughter crime, a knife is the instrument of the crime;

Last year, 24 people died in a knife attack in the southwest.
