Pop singer Mariah Carey is being sued for at least $20 million in damages in a copyright dispute.

Her song "All I Want For Christmas Is You" is said to infringe on the rights to a song with the same title line written by Andy Stone of country band Vince Vance & The Valiants.

According to the lawsuit, Stone recorded the song "All I Want For Christmas Is You" in 1989, five years before Mariah Carey's song was released and featured on her Merry Christmas album.

From then on, the song was played all over the radio and has become a Christmas classic and YouTube hit.

The lawsuit filed against the singer, her co-author Walter Afanasieff and Sony Music also refers to this.

The lawsuit, filed in Louisiana District Court, alleges that Mariah Carey and her co-writer Walter Afanasieff knowingly exploited "the popularity and unique style" of Andy Stone's song and created confusion over the relationship between the two songs -- the distinct ones Have melodies and lyrics – stand together.

No agreement was reached in negotiations, Stone's request was rejected, which is why a complaint is now being filed.
