China News Agency, Beijing, June 4th. On June 4th local time, East Timorese President Horta met with Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Dili.

  Horta asked Wang Yi to convey his sincere greetings to President Xi Jinping, saying that Timor-Leste admires China's extraordinary achievements under the leadership of President Xi Jinping and fully supports a series of major initiatives such as the "Belt and Road" proposed by President Xi Jinping.

China's development has not only greatly benefited Timor-Leste, but also has great significance to the region and the world.

  Horta expressed his gratitude to the Chinese government and people for their long-term great support.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, no matter what difficulties and pressures we face, we have always firmly adhered to the one-China principle.

Timor-Leste is full of confidence and expectation for the future of bilateral relations.

  Wang Yi conveyed the cordial greetings from President Xi Jinping, and appreciated that President Horta signed the communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations with China on the day of independence when he was the first foreign minister.

Wang Yi said that over the past 20 years, the two countries have always treated each other as equals, understood and supported each other, and have become important partners in the joint construction of the "Belt and Road". China has played an active role in the economic and social development, infrastructure construction and improvement of people's livelihood in East Timor.

After the outbreak of the epidemic, China immediately dispatched chartered planes to help the East fight against the epidemic.

The Chinese medical team rescued the dead and wounded in East Asia, and successively treated more than 300,000 East people.

China has also actively participated in the UN peacekeeping in East Timor and contributed to the peace and stability of East Timor.

China is willing to work with Timor-Leste and take the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations as an opportunity to sum up successful experience, draw up a blueprint for the future, push the comprehensive cooperative partnership between the two countries to a higher level, and create an example of mutual respect, equality, mutual benefit and common development between large and small countries.

  Wang Yi expressed that the two sides should promote high-quality joint construction of the "Belt and Road" and create new landmark projects.

We are willing to support East Africa to enhance its ability of independent development, accelerate the process of agricultural modernization and industrialization, and realize diversified development.

The Chinese side will continue to encourage Chinese enterprises to invest and start businesses in East Asia, so as to contribute to the development and revitalization of East Asia.

  The two sides reached consensus on strengthening regional cooperation.

Wang Yi expressed that China supports Timor-Leste's active participation in regional and international affairs, and expects Timor-Leste to join ASEAN at an early date and become a member of the big Asian family.

Horta thanked China for its support and looked forward to realizing this long-cherished wish as soon as possible.

  Both sides agreed to uphold and defend multilateralism.

Wang Yi said that the global development initiatives and global security initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping have received extensive support, and Timor-Leste is welcome to participate actively.

Horta said that although Timor-Leste is a small country, we adhere to principles, advocate peaceful settlement of differences through dialogue and consultation, and unite to deal with challenges to international peace and security.

  After the meeting, Wang Yi, accompanied by Horta, met with the press and answered questions on the spot.

  On the same day, Wang Yi met with the founding father of East Timor, Xanana, General Secretary of Fretilin Alkatiri, and Speaker of the Assembly Aniceto.

  During the visit, Wang Yi met with Timor-Leste Prime Minister Luwak, held talks with Timor-Leste Foreign Minister Adaljiza and attended the signing ceremony of cooperation documents.
