It was in mid-December 2021 that the Whistleblower Act was upgraded.

According to it, all companies with more than 50 employees must set up a reporting system for handling whistleblower alarms.

In connection with this, Halmstad Municipality began the work of finding a good alternative and procuring.

- I think we have started quickly.

It is important that we get started with this service, says General Counsel Mats Wallmark at the municipality.

The new whistleblower function is for employees, elected representatives and others with a working relationship with the municipality.

They must be able to report serious irregularities committed by persons in senior positions.

It can be things like bribery, fraud, theft, misconduct or gross discrimination.

- The function is not there to receive views on the municipality from the public, says Mats Wallmark.

All received reports and messages are handled by an external company that ensures a confidential treatment of the identity of the notifier.

The company also proposes measures and can make investigations if necessary.
