It turns out that US Secretary of Defense Austin is coordinating the first meeting with China's Defense Minister Wei Fenghe for an international conference to be held in Singapore from 10th this month.

The US Department of Defense has announced that Secretary of Defense Austin will attend the "Asia Security Conference" in Singapore starting this month.

This conference will be attended by the defense ministers of each country to exchange opinions on security, and China's defense minister Wei Fenghe will also attend and give a lecture.

Pentagon officials told NHK that "we are currently discussing candidates for the time and place of the meeting," regarding whether Austin and Defense Minister Wei will meet locally. I made it clear that I am adjusting.

If realized, it will be the first face-to-face meeting between the US and Chinese defense ministers since the inauguration of the Biden administration.

Austin met with Defense Minister Wei for the first time on the phone in April to discuss the military invasion of Taiwan and Russia into Ukraine.

The United States is becoming more vigilant against China, which is intensifying its military activities, but wants to communicate with the defense ministers and establish a dialogue route to prevent accidental clashes between the United States and China.
