Météo France placed 65 departments on orange alert this Saturday.

The meteorological institute spoke of a "stormy episode" and "a high risk of violent phenomena: heavy hailstorms, intense rains and gusts of wind".

In Ille-et-Vilaine, residents have already seen the first damage.

It is one of the departments most affected by these bad weather, between thunderstorms, torrential rains and gusts of wind which even rose up to 103 km / h.

In Ille-et-Vilaine, the last hours have been very hectic.

Firefighters received almost 1,000 calls in just two hours overnight from Friday to Saturday.

In Rennes, waterfalls poured into some metro stations.

"The water spread over 15,000 square meters"

A shopping center was also evacuated due to flooding, as site manager Nathalie Taillandier explains: “Very quickly, the water spread over nearly 15,000 square meters of surface area in 40 shops. had some traders' reservations flooded at ground level. There are marble fractures, there is water still everywhere."

The departments of south-west France were also badly affected, suffering a strong hailstorm.

Camille, a resident of Haute-Garonne, was very impressed by the size of the hailstones.

"Suddenly, the wind picked up. It started to rain and there were quickly hailstones, some very large, between seven and ten centimeters in diameter," she describes.

On social networks, several images reveal the damage caused in other departments by the hailstorm.

Several windshields or cars have been cracked or even completely shattered because of this phenomenon.

Several trees and utility poles also fell, but calm seems to have since returned.

However, the authorities are calling for caution.
