A 32-year-old man was indicted and imprisoned for the murder of his roommate, in Trouillas (Pyrénées-Orientales), a village near Perpignan, AFP learned on Thursday from the prosecution.

He was taken into custody on Tuesday.

A judicial investigation for murder has been opened, said the prosecutor of Perpignan, Jean-David Cavaillé.

The victim, a man in his forties, had been discovered in the middle of the street by residents of this town of 2,000 inhabitants.

He bore stab wounds to his side and back.

Thursday, the prosecution also announced the opening of a murder investigation after the discovery of the body of a man by walkers near Ille-sur-Têt, in the same department.

According to the prosecutor, the two cases "have nothing to do" with each other.
