China News Service, Paris, June 3 (Li Yang and Li Yue) French official local time said on the 2nd that a total of 33 cases of monkeypox have been diagnosed in France.

French health authorities called on the public to be more vigilant and suggested establishing a long-term monitoring mechanism for monkeypox virus.

The French Health Agency issued a bulletin on the 2nd that 33 cases of monkeypox have been confirmed in France, of which 24 cases have been reported in the Paris region, 2 in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, and 1 in the Haute-France region. For example, 1 case was reported in the Centre-Loire Valley region, 4 cases were reported in the Occitanie region, and 1 case was reported in the Normandy region.

According to French media reports, the last bulletin on monkeypox cases was released on May 29, and the number of confirmed cases of monkeypox announced in the bulletin was 16.

The French health agency said that from the data point of view, the situation of monkeypox infection in France is changing rapidly, which justifies long-term monitoring of the spread of monkeypox virus.

France's new health minister, Bourguignon, said last week that health authorities do not expect monkeypox cases to trigger a pandemic of the virus in France and that France has sufficient vaccine stocks for those who have been in contact with monkeypox cases.

French health regulators have also previously recommended vaccinations for people at risk of contracting monkeypox, including relevant health care workers.

According to the World Health Organization, studies have shown that the smallpox vaccine is about 85 percent effective against monkeypox and helps reduce symptoms.

But some experts have expressed concern about getting a smallpox vaccine.

At present, most of the first- and second-generation smallpox vaccines stored in France are very effective for the prevention and treatment of smallpox virus, but they are prone to cause serious adverse reactions, such as encephalitis, heart damage, brain diseases, etc., pregnant women and immunocompromised of people cannot get these vaccines.
