According to Interfax, citing the European Commission, €3.1 million will be used to provide a rapid response mechanism to protect journalists under threat, and another €1 million will be allocated to strengthen the position of media councils in the union countries and develop journalistic standards.

“Supporting a rapid response mechanism will allow us to protect our journalists who are threatened and monitor violations of press and media freedom,” said Thierry Breton, member of the European Commission for the internal market.

Earlier it was reported about the plans of the European Commission to analyze the political discourse in the Romanian media.

The EC also intended to provide €4 million to “strengthen the capacity of civil society” in Moldova.
