Investigations have been launched in Iran after the death of another member of the Revolutionary Guards.

The man "died in an accident at his home a few days ago," the state news agency IRNA reported on Friday, citing "an informed source."

It was not an "assassination attempt".

Foreign Iranian opposition media reported on Thursday that a commander of the Al-Quds Forces, Colonel Ali Esmailsadeh, had been assassinated in Karaj, near the capital Tehran.

For its part, Tasnim news agency reported: "Ali Esmailsadeh died after falling from the terrace of his home, which was not adequately secured."

On May 22, a high-ranking member of the Revolutionary Guards was assassinated when armed motorcyclists shot Colonel Sajjad Khodai on a street in Tehran.

According to a report in the New York Times, Israel is said to be behind the assassination.

Khodai was a member of the Al-Quds Brigades, which is responsible for operations abroad.

The 50-year-old is said to have served primarily in Syria.
