A 62-year-old former postman from the Alicante town of Biar has been arrested after it was discovered that he accumulated more than 20,000 letters in his home that should have been delivered to their recipients,
all of them from 2012 and 2013
.
As reported today by the Civil Guard, this man, Spanish, had worked as a delivery assistant with a temporary contract during those two years and was not renewed by the public company Correos in his functions.
This
alleged crime of infidelity in the custody of documents
has been uncovered thanks to the communication by a builder who was
renovating a house
recently acquired in Biar that he had found a large number of sealed letters, and that among the letters
there were official correspondences , letters from individuals and consignment collection documents.
The Civil Guard has verified that the more than 20,000 letters must have been distributed during the years 2012 and 2013 and that the senders were
all residents of the same area
of Alicante where, precisely, this man had worked for the postal service.
The letters have been temporarily deposited in Post offices and have been
made available to the competent judicial authority.
After the arrest, last Wednesday the 1st, this man has been placed at the disposal of a Villena court, which has decreed precautionary measures
