On June 2, local time, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement saying that the EU special summit held recently did not mention a solution to the situation in Ukraine through peaceful negotiations, and the EU intends to push Ukraine to the brink.

The results of the EU Extraordinary Summit further demonstrate that the EU has become a tool to contain Russia following the US and NATO geopolitical approach, the statement said.

The EU supports Ukraine through vague commitments to EU integration, supply of lethal weapons and financial support.

EU leaders did not mention a solution to the situation in Ukraine through peaceful negotiations, but deliberately pushed Ukraine to the brink.

The EU's decision to impose a partial embargo on Russian oil and petroleum products and ban insurance for Russian merchant ships is likely to further trigger price increases, destabilize energy markets and disrupt supply chains, the statement said.

Such a move will undermine the EU's economic and energy security and exacerbate the global food crisis.

The risk of exacerbating global food and energy problems caused by the EU's illegal actions will rest entirely with the EU and its policy supporter, the US.

On June 2, local time, according to a number of European media citing internal EU sources, the 27 EU member states officially approved the sixth round of sanctions against Russia on the same day after a one-day delay due to Hungary’s opposition.

At the EU special summit that ended on May 31, EU leaders reached a consensus in principle on the sixth round of sanctions against Russia, including a "partial embargo" on Russian oil.

According to EU rules, the representatives of each member state in the EU also need to implement this political consensus into a legal text, and on this basis, the new round of sanctions against Russia can officially take effect.
