Before the election, the Liberals have turned their backs on the issue of profiteering in independent schools and are proposing an independent school reform.

In the Sweden meet debate in Trelleborg on Wednesday evening, the Liberal party leader said that there are plenty of independent schools that can contribute - as long as they maintain a high quality.

The Left Party's education policy spokesman Daniel Riazat wants to regulate independent schools more strictly and is strongly opposed to any form of market control when schools are established.

- I get very provoked when even the OECD's head of education goes out and says that Sweden's biggest problem with the school system is that the market has control over the school system, he says.

(L): Maintain the failed grade

Another issue that was debated was whether the failed grade should be or not be in the Swedish school.

Jörgen Tholin, associate professor of pedagogy at the University of Gothenburg, wants to abolish the failed grade.

He saw, for example, the rating scale 1-5, which he himself grew up with, as a more forgiving system.

- At that time, you got a new chance.

And I would like to come back to that, says Jörgen Tholin.

However, the Liberals' party leader Johan Pehrson is clear that he does not think that the failed rating should be abolished.

- I think that grades can play a role.

It is important to know that you have not passed and then you should know what to do to move forward.
