Large parts of Nyköping and the whole of Oxelösund were without water supply during Thursday morning.

A main water pipe had broken just outside Nyköping, south of Skavsta, at half past two on Thursday night.

The municipality had to turn off the water to locate the leak.

It had major consequences for society with, among other things, canceled care and closed schools in Nyköping and Oxelösund on Thursday.

Only emergency care was performed at Nyköping's hospital, and a large part of the schools and preschools have been closed.

Water tanks and bajamajor

Residents have been allowed to fetch water from exhibited water tanks, and temporary bajamas were exhibited in the community.

Repairs have been going on all day, and in the afternoon water could start to be released but with varying pressure.

And still not everyone had got the water back later in the evening.

Partly still off

- When it comes to supply, we still have a leak and the water is partly still shut off.

So we do not have full operation yet.

When it comes to the quality of the water, we have no status on it either, therefore we recommend boiling the water in the current situation, says Kent Nyman, division manager for the technical division in Nyköping.
