Last week, the Social Welfare Committee's politicians in Ljungby decided that 16- and 17-year-olds should also be able to work with certain care and nursing work.

The purpose is to bring in high school students with care skills for the summer.

This is something that students and teachers that SVT talks to are positive about.

- You get new knowledge and experience and it is important while you study, says Mohamad Alhams.

He is 19 years old and has already gotten a summer job at a nursing home, just like several classmates who are over 18.

Late decision

But Izabella Maric, 16, who had wanted to work with the elderly - has already got an administrative job at the hospital.

- It will be great fun, she says.

If the decision from the politicians came earlier, would you have wanted to work with caregivers then?

- Yes, then I could have helped there and had more experience when I go out and work, she says.

Should have been out in January

Employees in the home care service that SVT talks to are also positive, but say that the decision comes too late.

Something that the social committee's chairman Bo Ederström (M) agrees with.

-We should have been out in January, February.

That's right.

But if she (Izabella) is interested, so are we, and it is permissible to regret it, he says.
