The European Union reported on June 1 that the sixth round of EU sanctions against Russia, which was originally planned to be officially approved on the same day, could not be passed as scheduled due to Hungary’s opposition.

At the just-concluded EU special summit, EU leaders reached a consensus in principle on the EU's sixth round of sanctions against Russia, including a "partial embargo" on Russian oil.

According to EU rules, the representatives of the member states in the EU also need to implement this political consensus into a legal text, and on this basis, the new round of sanctions against Russia can officially take effect.
