1. Germany wants to deliver anti-aircraft system and multiple rocket launchers to Ukraine

According to Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD), Ukraine should be able to "protect an entire city from Russian air raids".

Exchange of blows between Merz and Scholz in the Bundestag

Further commitments:

Scholz also promised Kiev a modern tracking radar during the budget debate in the Bundestag on Wednesday, which should localize the positions of the enemy artillery.

The missile launchers are scheduled to be delivered by the end of June in close coordination with Washington.

The Iris-T air defense system is the most modern air defense system that Germany has, said Scholz.

This puts Ukraine in a position to “protect an entire city from Russian air raids”.

Accusation:

With his announcements, Scholz contradicted the accusation that the federal government promised heavy weapons but did not deliver them.

Opposition leader Friedrich Merz (CDU) criticized this at the beginning of the debate.

Merz accused Scholz of avoiding saying that Ukraine had to win the war.

Scholz replied that Merz was only presenting "stuff that was being talked about".

Done too little?

According to Scholz, Germany has already delivered more than 15 million rounds of ammunition to Ukraine, as well as hundreds of thousands of hand grenades and 5,000 anti-tank mines.

In addition, there would be explosives, machine guns and dozens of truckloads of material for countering drones, for example.

2. This is planned with the special fund for the Bundeswehr

On Friday, the Bundestag wants to decide on the largest investment project in the history of the Federal Republic.

The shopping list is long.

Air Force:

The plan is to develop and purchase Eurofighters with electronic warfare capability.

American F-35 fighter planes are also to be purchased.

The planned projects also include around 60 new transport helicopters, light support helicopters for the army, aircraft for electronic maritime surveillance and early warning and reconnaissance systems.

The list of materials also includes the project for a joint Franco-German combat aircraft of the future (FCAS).

The armament of the Heron TP drones in the Bundeswehr is also enforced.

Navy:

Planned are mainly modernized corvettes and at least one more frigate F126.

Modern anti-ship missiles capable of sinking large warships are also being purchased.

Also planned are the acquisition of anti-aircraft missiles for submarines, underwater sonars and the German-Norwegian submarine U212 CD.

Finally, multi-purpose combat boats are to be purchased, which means small, powerfully motorized and extremely manoeuvrable boats.
