The Transport Department announced today (June 2) that the facilitation measure will be extended from June 17 to December 31 this year.

  The Transport Department pointed out that eligible cross-boundary vehicles can drive back to Hong Kong via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Port on designated days, and use the designated route to park the vehicle at the designated car park/designated location at the Hong Kong Port of the Bridge, and then the towing service arranged by the vehicle owner will take the vehicle back to Hong Kong. The vehicle is towed to a designated vehicle inspection center in Hong Kong for vehicle inspection, and then goes through the procedures for renewing the license plate.

  Under the facilitation measures, eligible vehicle owners are required to submit applications to the Transport Department two weeks before the proposed return date of their vehicles to Hong Kong. Successful applicants will be issued an approval letter.

Approved vehicles must be driven back to Hong Kong via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Port by a designated driver who has successfully booked an "Easy to Hong Kong" or "Easy to Hong Kong" appointment on the specified date on the approval letter.

There is a daily upper limit on the number of vehicles allowed to return to Hong Kong. The Transport Department urges applicants to submit applications as soon as possible.

  The Transport Department said it will gazette the exemption from the vehicle registration and licensing regulations for approved cross-boundary vehicles on the day they return to Hong Kong.

The eligibility and method of application remain unchanged.

Eligible vehicle owners may submit their applications to the Transport Department in person or through an agent via email, post or drop-in box two weeks before the intended return date of the vehicle.
