In a special session of the Defense Committee, specialist politicians from the traffic light coalition and the Union clarified open questions in connection with better equipment for the Bundeswehr.

This means that the Bundestag can vote on the “special fund” worth 100 billion euros this Friday.

The Union initially delayed the project on Wednesday.

CSU defense politician Florian Hahn justified this by saying that the Union had not had enough time to examine the projects that were to be procured with the money.

It was heard from circles of the traffic light parties that the business plan was not initially available at the meeting.

Hahn told the FAZ on Thursday that the transfer of projects worth 15 billion euros from the defense budget to the "special fund" had to be clarified.

The necessary documents were subsequently submitted and all changes were ultimately made by mutual agreement.

According to specialist politicians, the projects worth 15 billion euros are projects that structurally fall under the special fund.

The money will be free in the coming years for smaller purchases, including ammunition.

In addition to the defense committee, the budget committee of the Bundestag also approved the project with the votes of the traffic light parties and the Union.

As the Reuters news agency reports, a passage was included in the law on the "Bundeswehr special fund" according to which the repayment of the underlying loans should begin on January 1, 2031 at the latest.

According to the economic plan that was also passed, it is planned “for future years” to take out up to 81.91 billion euros in loans.

Three billion are earmarked for interest on the loans.

No further debt is necessary for the projects from the defense budget of 15 billion.
