The first deputy mayor of Latour-de-France (Pyrénées-Orientales) was the victim of an attack this Saturday.
The elected official immediately lodged a complaint with the gendarmerie, reports France Bleu Roussillon.
The facts occurred in the early afternoon.
While he was in the street, the deputy saw a couple drop off bulky items directly on the sidewalk while the recycling center was open that day.
He pointed it out to them but the man immediately got angry and punched him in the face.

"He is slightly injured, but he is above all very shocked by this scene," the mayor of Latour-de-France, Marc Carles, told France Bleu.
He has been elected to the municipality for more than twenty years, the attacker knew him.
He knew he was part of my municipal team.

Following the filing of a complaint, the gendarmes immediately opened an investigation.
According to the first elements collected by the soldiers, the attacker was alcoholic at the time of the facts, notes France Bleu.
