On May 31, local time, Turkish Foreign Minister Cavusoglu posted on his social media platform that he sent a letter to the Secretary-General of the United Nations on the same day, requesting that Turkey's foreign language name be changed to "Türkiye".

According to Turkey's Anadolu news agency reported on June 1, at the request of Turkey, the United Nations changed Turkey's foreign language name from "Turkey" to "Türkiye".

In December 2021, Turkey will start using "Türkiye" as its foreign language country name in both domestic and international settings.

In Turkish, the name of Turkey is "Türkiye".

In English, the Turkish name is "Turkey".

And the word "turkey" means "turkey" in English, and is even defined in the Cambridge Dictionary as "something that fails badly" or "stupid person".

This is also the reason why Turkey has launched a name-correcting operation.
