More and more details are becoming known about the mishaps during the elections in Berlin last fall.

The election for the Berlin House of Representatives on September 26 was interrupted in around a hundred polling stations, sometimes for two hours.

Elections were still held after 6 p.m. in 225 polling stations, and after 7:30 p.m. in 22.

In addition, 3,409 first ballots and 1,297 second ballots were not issued to eligible voters who wanted to vote.

This emerges from a statement by the incumbent state returning officer Ulrike Rockmann to the Berlin Constitutional Court, which was reported by several media on Wednesday.

A complete explanation of all errors and glitches is not possible for her, says Rockmann, because she only has the records of the twelve electoral districts, but not those of the urn and postal polling stations.

Due to numerous objections, the state constitutional court is currently conducting a complex election review procedure, at the end of which it will decide whether the election must be repeated.

Rockmann himself and the Berlin interior administration had also lodged an objection.

The court looks at the election logs from all 2,257 polling stations for the examination, they should contain at least 25,000 pages.

A hearing is scheduled to take place in September.

Then the election could be declared invalid in whole or in individual constituencies and constituencies.

That would result in a repeat.

The statement also revealed that two counties issued "copied ballots" because the original ballots were no longer available.

In addition, 1,608 false first ballot papers were issued that were intended for another constituency and later had to be declared invalid because it was a personal election.

According to the findings of the election management, 170 eligible voters were turned away. In 15 cases, minors or EU foreigners voted for the House of Representatives who were only entitled to vote for the election of the district assembly.

On September 26, four votes took place simultaneously in Berlin.

The federal election, the election to the Berlin House of Representatives, the election to the district assemblies and the referendum on the expropriation of real estate groups.

The Berlin marathon also took place.

In addition to the election to the Berlin House of Representatives, the Bundestag elections in Berlin could also be partially repeated.

The Bundestag decides on this, the basis for this is a recommendation from the Election Review Committee, which also received many objections.

At a hearing last week, Federal Returning Officer Georg Thiel demanded that the election be repeated in six of Berlin's twelve constituencies.
