The DeLorean Motor Company has revealed the first images of the Alpha 5 EV electric vehicle.

According to The Verge, the brand is trying to revive the Dolorin name in an all-tech electric form, while keeping the '80s classic made famous in the Back to the Future movie series.

The Alpha 5 comes with those iconic doors that look like gull wings and can reach a speed of more than 90 kilometers per hour in about 2.99 seconds.

It's worth noting that the company behind the "Alpha 5" isn't actually the same as the original Dolorin cars. That company, a Texas-based company that supplies parts to owners from vintage Dolorins, discontinued in 1982 and acquired the rights to The Dolorin brand revived the legendary car in a new, upgraded, all-electric look in April.

The Alpha 5 can come with a 100 kWh battery, an estimated range of 480 km (per charge) and a top speed of 250 km per hour.

Dolorin says these specifications belong to the "basic" model, but there is no information on potential performance levels or prices.

While the Alfa 5 draws on the heritage of its fuel-powered predecessor, with winged doors and a sloping design, it evolves its appearance with smoother curves and 4 seats instead of 2.

Despite some notable differences, Dolorin partnered with Italdesign, the same Volkswagen-owned design team that helped develop the look of the 1981 DMC-12, which is Now in the process of converting it to an electric version.

Dolorin plans to display the Alpha 5 to the public on its website, but to get a sneak peek at its photos and specifications you can register on the site for now.

We'll have to wait a little longer to see the car in action, as Dolorin prepares to reveal the Alpha 5 in Pebble Beach, California on August 21.
