Two prison guards and an inmate from the Pontet prison (Vaucluse) were tried this Friday before the Avignon criminal court for violence.

The facts date back to July 29, 2021, reports

.

On that day, a prison guard allegedly entered the prisoner's cell and beat him with a rigid bar.

The prisoner reportedly responded by kicking the guard on the ground in turn, all under the eyes of another guard, witness to the facts.

Neither man suffered serious injury and the inmate was subsequently sent to punishment.

The report concerning these facts, written by the two guards, was then refused by the interregional penitentiary management, which accused them of having concealed and minimized the acts of violence on the part of the guard.

He and his colleague were thus prosecuted for forgery in writing.

At the hearing, the supervisor justified himself by explaining that he was exhausted and that "that day, [his] emotion took over".

He was still given an 18-month suspended prison sentence for the violence and the false report.

His colleague received an 8-month suspended sentence for forgery and the 38-year-old detainee was sentenced to an additional six months in prison.
