70-120 wind turbines will be located approximately 33 kilometers from the mainland and produce approximately 9-10 terawatt hours of electricity per year.

Which according to the company corresponds to about 7.5 percent of the Swedish annual electricity production.

It is a gigantic project with a cost of around SEK 50-60 billion, which will initially be financed by bank loans.

- When construction takes over, our owners Global Infrastructure Partners will be responsible for the financing.

They currently manage around SEK 800 billion in infrastructure assets, says Olle Hedberg, CEO of Wpd Offshore.

Several industrial establishments

For the actual operation of the wind farm, there will only be 20-30 jobs.

But Olle Hedberg believes that the wind farm will bring with it several industrial establishments, and how many jobs will be created during the construction itself has not been determined.

- Today, Kalix municipality has a deficit in energy production.

If you have access to large volumes of renewable electricity, you are very attractive on the international market.

Expansion of ports

During construction, the port of Kalix will not be enough and will therefore need to be expanded.

- We may need to engage many ports to supply the needs the park will have, says Olle hedberg.

The large industrial investments in Norrbotten in the future will require large amounts of energy.

- We know that it is difficult to arrive with wind power on land, and expanding more rivers is not relevant.

The alternatives are water-based wind power and / or nuclear power.

It takes 100 terawatt hours.
