SVT Nyheter Norrbotten has reported several times on how the residents of eastern Malmberget get into trouble when LKAB and Gällivare municipality quarrel about the area's continued fate.

Gällivare municipality and many of the residents believe that the only right thing is to liquidate the area and that homeowners should be replaced with new properties.

The area has become too small, too isolated and affected by too many disturbances in the form of ground movements, confinement and poor drinking water.

LKAB, for its part, believes that it would be wrong to phase out 144 functioning villas in the current housing shortage and wants Gällivare municipality to be involved in investing in a development.

New opinion from the county administrative board

On Tuesday, it became known that the county administrative board also supports large parts of the municipality and the residents' views.

The County Administrative Board considers, among other things, that a key-to-key principle could be applied to strive for a principle of equal treatment.

That is, the residents could get a new house in exchange for their current houses.

And the new opinion makes many who live on eastern Malmberget feel a streak of hope.

- You get some hopes, says Patrik Olofsson who lives on eastern Malmberget.

The neighbor sprang into panic

Tony Nilsson describes a living environment that even scares people.

- It only escalates year after year.

It has gone so far that people are afraid to live in the area.

On Thursday, for example, we had a huge investment and my neighbor came running out and asked what was happening.

It has started to go too far, he says.
