The copper network was used to connect the home for calls and the internet.

Today, consumers place higher demands on accessibility and most have therefore switched to fiber or mobile solutions.

- The vast majority have already switched to other solutions a long time ago.

The reason why we are closing down the copper network in Dorotea is partly because there are few users left and that the Swedish Transport Administration is widening the E45 and then we take care, says Staffan Åkesson, technical manager Telia.

Settlement until 2026

After Dorotea, more municipalities will get rid of their copper networks.

The idea is that the network will disappear in 2026 throughout Sweden, and be replaced by fiber.

- The copper network was sensitive to weather and wind and the fiber is buried, which is an advantage.

Now we also want to be able to move freely, for example work in the holiday home and keep up with the digital development that is in society.

It is a new era change that is taking place, says Staffan Åkesson.
