Between Oskarshamn and Mönsterås is small Fliseryd with just over 700 inhabitants.

Here, to the village's municipal primary school, primary school teachers commute all the way from Kalmar.

Two years ago, the new school building was completed after the old one had to be demolished due to moisture problems.

Mönsterås municipality is at the top in Småland when it comes to staff turnover among teachers.

But Fliserydsskolan goes against the statistics.

- I have been here for eleven years and have chosen to stay here.

And it has to do with the fact that we have a strong sense of belonging in the staff.

We are a small school, so the children are everyone's responsibility, says teacher Maria Askebring.

Not greener on the other side

The key to the low staff turnover in Fliseryd depends on the size of the school and that the teachers can be involved in major decisive decisions.

At least if you can believe the principal and teachers.

But it has happened that staff have resigned earlier.

- Sometimes it is a salary issue, that other municipalities can push up higher.

But it is teachers who come back anyway, because they notice that it is not greener on the other side, says principal Anita Törnkvist.

More than twelve teachers together take care of 111 students aged six to twelve at Fliserydsskolan.

The majority of the staff commute to Fliseryd from Oskarshamn, Mönsterås and Kalmar.

All teachers are licensed according to the principal.
