He noted that for the time being, an effective response to monkeypox does not require the massive measures that were required to combat COVID-19, since the virus does not spread in the same way.

As Kluge said in a widespread statement, the organization "does not yet know whether they can fully contain the spread of the virus."

“To do this, we need a significant and urgent reduction in infections through clear communication and community-led action,” Kluge said.

He added that to contain the spread of smallpox, it is also necessary to impose isolation and effectively track and trace contacts. 

The specialist warned that there is a high probability of further spread of infection in Europe and other countries during the summer.

As of the morning of May 30, the World Health Organization reported 257 confirmed cases of monkeypox and about 120 suspected cases in 23 countries.

Prior to this, the organization had rated the risk of monkeypox spread globally as "moderate".
