He was accused by guards of death threats, spitting and trying to punch them.

The Rennes-Vezin prison disciplinary committee finally released him from the acts of violence, condemning him to two days in a disciplinary cell for "insults, threats or outrageous remarks".

Aged 21, this detainee is in pre-trial detention, suspected of being involved in a murder case.

This Monday, his lawyers announced that they had filed a complaint on his behalf for willful violence and forgery in public writing against guards at the Rennes-Vezin men's penitentiary center, as revealed by

Le Parisien

.

To justify these attacks, the advice of Abdallah M. is based on video surveillance images recorded at the end of last year at the time of an altercation between the detainee and the guards.

The disciplinary commission had recognized the partial innocence of the detainee.

"The exploitation of the video surveillance of the hall and the first floor [of the prison] is in line with the declarations of the detainee, namely that he had his internal identity card and that he was pushed to several times by the supervisor when the detainee showed no signs of aggression,” wrote the commission in its decision of November 30.

A “worrying” level of violence in Rennes prison

His lawyer then asked the director of the establishment to keep "all videos useful for the manifestation of the truth", specifying that "this video is edifying".

It is unclear whether the footage has been preserved.

Since the filing of a complaint in December, the lawyer has not heard back.

The prosecution had not yet responded to the requests.

“When it comes to questioning the prison administration, there is never an investigation.

Nothing happens.

There is not even a classification without follow-up, ”accused Me Amina Saadaoui.

The prison administration indicated that disciplinary proceedings were underway against the guard accused of violence.

In 2019, the general controller of places of deprivation of liberty had already pointed out in a report "a worrying level of violence" at Rennes prison.

The penitentiary establishes an increasingly pronounced prison overcrowding, forcing prisoners to sleep on mattresses on the ground.
