From Afghanistan to China via Chernobyl or Woippy in Moselle, the 29th edition of the festival of major reporting and social documentaries (Figra) promises a “singular journey”.

Nearly 80 films will be on the program in Douai, in the North, from May 31 to June 5.

"With the echo of the bombs falling on Ukraine", the festival offers to discover "the world in front" through a selection of films on the big screen, meetings with their directors, photo exhibitions on Afghanistan.

Previews out of competition

The official selection of the flagship category of major reports of more than 40 minutes will oppose 16 films on various themes, from the "genocide" of the Uyghurs in China to the children of the Islamic State organization in Iraq, via the global race for the vaccine against the Covid-19.

Out of competition, five previews are also planned, including that of the film

Sous la loi des talibans

, by Patrick de Saint-Exupéry and Pedro Brito Da Fonseca, proposed by Arte, and

Irréductibles

(France 3), by Olivier Dubuquoy, on environmental activists.

Last year, the documentary

On the line, expelled from America

, by Léo Mattei and Alex Gohari, won the Grand Prize.

This film about three Mexicans sent back to their country will be rebroadcast with eight others from the 2021 list.
