At the dawn of summer, tourism professionals are still struggling to recruit their employees for the coming months.

When they succeed, they are faced with another problem, that of finding low-cost accommodation for their seasonal workers.

Europe 1 went to the Guérande peninsula, in La Baule.

REPORTAGE

The Ascension weekend served as a warm-up lap for tourism professionals, because one thing is certain, after two years of health restrictions, summer promises to be hot.

Professionals in the sector expect to fill up on reservations but regret not having enough employees.

When they manage to recruit a few seasonal workers, another problem arises: finding them accommodation.

In La Baule, on the Guérande peninsula, an association has appealed to residents to make their free rooms available for a limited rent.

Accommodation found thanks to the association

"There is a kitchen part and the bathroom, toilet side", explains Maryse, an octogenarian from Guérande.

This fully equipped studio on the first floor of her house has been fitted out for her children when they visit her.

But from Monday, a young couple employed in the catering industry will come and put their suitcases there.

"Those who come here had started to make a request in December and always started again", says Maryse.

This couple found the Holy Grail thanks to Presqu'île Habitat Jeunes, an association which launched an appeal for locals to house workers aged 16 to 30, but not everyone has the same luck.

The summer season will soon begin and the square meters available at the inhabitant are still too rare, according to a facilitator of the association.

"In the town of La Baule, we have 15 young people on the waiting list who already have their contract," she explains.

"I have hotels, I have restaurants, I have merchants, there are all areas. We are on a good score of housing needs except that I only have four hosts for the moment ."
