Kuwait expels a Jordanian family who slept on the beach for more than two months

Kuwaiti news websites circulated the story of a Jordanian family whose members had been sleeping on the beach for more than two months, before the authorities decided to deport them from Kuwait.

Al-Majlis newspaper, in a post on "Twitter", Monday, stated that the Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior decided to expel the Jordanian family, which "does not have a source of livelihood", and who "slept on the Shuwaikh beach for housing for more than two months."

The council indicated that "the father and mother lost their job", and thus they had no money left "to pay the rent for housing."

The Kuwaiti newspaper "Al-Rai" website stated that many people who used to go to the beach sympathized with this family, and they were providing them with food and drink.

Al-Rai explained that the family consisted of "a father, a mother and 4 children, and they took up residence on the beach after they were expelled" from the apartment they were renting.

And she pointed out that "before staying on the beach two months ago, family members were sleeping in the car," and due to the Corona pandemic, "the parents lost their job in a private sector institution."

A security source revealed to Al-Rai that "the beach of the Shuwaikh area was their haven for sleep and rest," and they used "public toilets."

The source indicated that a patrol from the Capital Governorate security went to the place at night, and when asked about the reason for their presence there, the father said, "They used to sleep in this place more than two months ago, after he and his wife lost their jobs."

The source added that "the family, consisting of a 35-year-old father, a 30-year-old wife, children (7, 5 and 3 years old) and a baby who did not complete his first year, was taken to the police station, and then an immediate decision was taken to deport them due to the lack of a visible means of living, and they were deported to their country. Jordan".

Tweeters expressed their sympathy with the Jordanian family's story, and some of them questioned the embassy's role in supporting it or helping to solve its problem, while others questioned why charities did not help it.
