The car burglary took place 25-26 February 2019 in Hjulsbro in Linköping.

The man was arrested in April this year in Lithuania on the occasion of a European arrest warrant.

The 37-year-old has been in custody ever since.

- He was detained in his absence and a European arrest warrant was issued because it was suspected that he had left Sweden.

In April, he appeared in Lithuania and then he was arrested, says chamber prosecutor Mats Gyllensten.

Denies crime

The prosecutor believes that the crimes should be considered serious because they have been part of systematic crime.

- The man denies any involvement in the crimes.

We suspect that these thefts are organized because they were directed at a certain car brand and took place in the same area during the same time.

The trial against the 37-year-old will be held on Tuesday 31 May.

BMW most exposed

According to reports from Larmtjänst, BMW is the car brand that is most affected by what they call spare part thefts.

Statistics show that that brand in 2021 accounted for 67 percent of those thefts.

In the same year, 1,073 airbags were reported stolen from BMW cars.

For comparison, 46 airbags were stolen from Volvo cars.

Between January and April this year, there have been 35 cases of spare parts theft in Östergötland.

During the whole of last year, there were 25.
