Incidents broke out at the Stade de France on Saturday evening, moments before the start of the Champions League final between Real Madrid and Liverpool.

If a ministerial meeting organized this Monday must "identify the dysfunctions", the production of counterfeit tickets and the choice of the ticket office are called into question.

The Champions League final between Real Madrid and Liverpool was delayed by around 30 minutes on Saturday evening, as excesses took place at the Stade de France which hosted the event.

A total of 105 people were arrested after many supporters climbed the gates to try to enter the stadium, and others forced checkpoints, causing crowd movements.

Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin denounced the attitude "thousands of English supporters with fake tickets" near the stadium.

Thousands of British "supporters", without tickets or with counterfeit tickets, forced entry and sometimes assaulted the stewards.

Thank you to the very many police forces mobilized this evening in this difficult context.

Counterfeit banknotes, a "marginal" cause?

It should be remembered that the counterfeit ticket, whether it is a simple copy of an official ticket or a pure fabrication, is a common practice during major sports competitions.

This practice is also the reputation of the English club Liverpool.

But according to Ronan Evain, general manager of the association Football supporters Europe and present at the Stade de France alongside several observers, there would not have been tens of thousands of counterfeit tickets in circulation as asserted by the Minister of l 'Interior.

"It's a problem that has been communicated to the organization of the match to the public authorities, but which is marginal", he explains at the microphone of Europe 1. "In the few accreditations that I have been able to see, there were some pretty tinkered things at home. We are not at all like a mafia who would have sold thousands of counterfeit tickets to supporters, "says Ronan Evain.

Why paper ticketing is singled out

What may also have facilitated the fraud is the choice of ticket office.

France had asked for the tickets to be digital, but the English insisted on a more traditional medium.

“They are the ones who imposed paper ticketing,” says David le Bars, general secretary of the SCPN police union.

"Normally, for a final, it is electronic ticketing which poses fewer problems for control. This paper ticketing, which favored photocopying, which slowed down passages through the gates, is one of the main causes of the disorder to which we was able to attend", underlines the trade unionist.

A ministerial meeting in the presence of UEFA and the Paris police headquarters is organized this Monday at 11 a.m. to try to "identify the dysfunctions", announced by press release the Ministry of Sports.
