A total of around 2,500 air filter devices are to be installed in 140 schools, i.e. most of the municipal educational institutions, by the autumn holidays.

According to Sylvia Weber (SPD), head of the building and education department, the first delivery arrived at the mosaic school a week ago.

The equipment with the filters, which are intended to prevent infections with the corona virus, among other things, had been greatly delayed.

Weber justified this with an extraordinarily long award procedure of nine months.

"Of course we knew that European public procurement law has some pitfalls and is not uncomplicated, but we have never experienced such a long process with contradictions and decisions by the public procurement chamber," said Weber on Monday.

One reason for the delay is the high order volume of more than twelve million euros.

Weber was "very pleased that the procedural stages associated with the tender could finally be completed and that we were able to award the contract to two suppliers".

The air filters would be needed with a view to autumn and winter, said the head of department.

"Because we don't yet know how the infection process will develop in the cold season." Regardless of this, the technology generally contributes to better indoor air.

These are quiet and powerful devices that are adapted to the volume of the room and have a built-in carbon dioxide traffic light that reminds you that window ventilation is still necessary," said Weber.
