As the days get longer and the temperatures warmer, it's finally time for open-air celebrations and festivals.

After the break caused by the pandemic, getting together again and celebrating together on mild spring evenings is all the nicer.

Whether at the street festival in the neighborhood or at the theater festival in the park.

Unfortunately, we have to do without a fixed date in the region's festival calendar this year.

Shorts at Moonlight, the small but very fine short film festival, which has been presenting a selected program for cineastes against the backdrop of the Höchst Castle - and in the branch in Oestrich-Winkel - for years, is also canceled in 2022.

As in the two previous years, but then due to the pandemic.

This time, the lack of planning security is a problem, says festival director Gudrun Winter.

Construction project instead of Corona

Because the owners of the castle are planning construction measures that leave no more space for the necessary emergency exits.

Unlike in the previous two years, there will be no purely online festival this summer, the effort is too high and the motivation too low, because after all the volunteer team would have to view up to 1000 new films.

It is still unclear whether and how the festival will continue in the coming years.

As understandable as the cancellation is, it is a pity for the cultural landscape of the region.

Since the small festival was founded in 2003, it has become a favorite of the public, and tickets for the atmospheric evenings with wine and tarte flambée in front of the historical backdrop have always sold out quickly.

To have to do without these evenings permanently would just be a shame.
