Saudi Arabia: A fine of 10 million riyals for those who violate the rules of publishing on social media

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia imposed a fine of 10 million for violating the controls of publishing on social networking sites.

 And the Radio and Television Authority in the Kingdom indicated that the penalty for violating the controls of publishing on social media sites is up to 10 million riyals, a fine, suspension for up to 6 months, and cancellation of the license, and that there are specialized committees to issue penalties against violators that follow the Ministry of Information in the General Secretariat of the Committees, according to the Director of the Media Control Center. The Audiovisual Media Authority Saad Al-Suhaimi.

The authority, represented by the Compliance Committee, recently issued fines of 400,000 riyals to two female citizens who violated media content controls.

She stressed the necessity of adhering to the media content controls stipulated in its rules and regulations, calling for reporting any observations or violations via a media platform.

The authority specified the controls for publishing on the communication sites as:

Not to be subjected to defamation and abuse of persons and bodies, or prejudice to those in authority.


Whoever publishes the media material and content is to blame.


The authority emphasizes that media professionals and influencers observe regulations and adhere to appropriate content.
