What the man was charged with took place from the autumn of 2019 until January 2020. It was then suspicions that not everything was right was raised with the county administrative board's animal welfare officer and district veterinarian.

They discovered how animals were emaciated and covered with manure, which according to the veterinarians is perceived as painful for the animals.

Failed killing during inspection

The farmer is also convicted for causing a sheep injury in connection with a killing.

During an inspection visit, the farmer was informed that a sheep had been severely emaciated, after which he quickly fetched a bolt pistol to kill the animal.

The animal did not become unconscious, as planned, but it took up to a minute for the sheep to die after a second shot with a bolt gun.

The man is now sentenced to a suspended sentence and a daily fine of SEK 80 of SEK 100 for one case of animal cruelty and two cases of violation of the Animal Welfare Act.
