The Gironde department's "Objectif nage" device will take place this year from July 6 to August 26, on 14 bodies of water in the natural environment of Gironde, such as Arès, Bègles, Carcans, Hourtin or Saint-Vivien-de- Medoc.

This free initiative is intended primarily for children aged 7 to 13 who wish to acquire the basics necessary for autonomy and ease in the aquatic environment and thus prevent the risk of drowning.

"Knowing how to swim is essential, especially when you live in Gironde, with its 126 kilometers of coastline and its many lakes" specifies the departmental council.

Ten one-hour sessions

The initiation takes place over ten one-hour sessions, from Monday to Friday, for two consecutive weeks and during the summer.

Groups of up to six people are supervised by a professional sports instructor in order to benefit from personalized and safe monitoring.

The department aims to train 650 children this summer.
