According to the European Commission, Sweden is too bad at protecting marine birds and their areas.

Therefore, the government has commissioned twelve county administrative boards with the coast to the sea to propose new areas for Natura-2000 areas.

Inventory carried out in the county

The County Administrative Board of Gävleborg has carried out an inventory.

In the northern archipelago, along the coasts of Hudiksvall and Nordanstig, they have found eight seabird species that need protection.

These are black, rosemary, herring, terns, silver terns, shorebirds, thunder and sandeels.

Most of the species are endangered and are declining in number.

Property owners can be affected

The County Administrative Board will inform property owners and other stakeholders about the consequences that new bird areas may have.

Those affected will have the opportunity to comment on the issue before the decision on the area of protection is ultimately made by the government.
