David Jessen has worked as a teacher in the vehicle and transport program at Syab Gymnasium in Kalmar since 2012.

He remembers the time when there were hardly any girls at all in the classroom.

But after 2016, it started to increase enormously, he describes.

Now half the class are girls.

- I think it is mainly because there are good aids in the industry.

You do not have to be physically strong with a "beer belly" like the old image you had of a driver.

Virtually anyone can drive a truck, says David Jessen.

Almost half of the class are girls

The admission figures speak for themselves, with the latest 19 girls and 21 boys entering the program.

Five years ago, there were seven girls and 29 boys.

David Jessen believes, among other things, that the Viaplay-produced program "Swedish Truckers" has helped girls to open their eyes to the industry.

- In the program, girls have been shown who can do it and it gives a good picture, says David Jessen.

That's why she wants to be a truck driver

One of those who attend the program in Kalmar is Hulda Johansson.

- I have always been interested in becoming a truck driver, but I decided when I was in seventh grade, says Hulda Johansson who is studying the first year.

In the video above, you can hear Ida Persson and Hulda Johansson tell more about why they want to become a truck driver.
