Ambassador Nabila Makram Abdel Shaheed, Minister of State for Immigration and Egyptians Abroad Affairs, said on her official Facebook page: “My family and I are going through severe ordeals, and we are going through a difficult time after my son was accused of committing a murder in the United States of America. So far, a definitive ruling has been issued... and my fulfillment of my duties as a minister in the Egyptian government does not at all conflict with my being a faithful mother who bravely faces the plight of her son."
According to Al-Ahram, the following is the text of what the minister wrote on her official Facebook page: "May God's will be... my family and I are going through a severe ordeal, and we are going through a difficult time after my son was accused of committing a murder in the United States of America... This accusation is before a court. An American woman, and he has not issued a definitive ruling so far... My fulfillment of my duties as a minister in the Egyptian government does not conflict at all with my being a faithful mother who bravely faces the plight of her son.
She continued: "Whatever the consequences, as a minister, I bear my full responsibility towards my position and the requirements of working with it, and I clearly differentiate between what is personal and what is public.. As a mother, I ask you to pray for me and my family in this ordeal, and I pray with you for my son Rami and for the victims who met their Lord." I also turn to the media to investigate accuracy in what is being published, and take into account honesty and humanity in dealing with the ordeal that befell an Egyptian family waiting for a verdict that is still in the knowledge of the unseen and in the judge’s conscience.
